The Fletchers Are A Norman Rockwell Painting
Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010
As I blogged earlier, Dibi, Nathan and I currently have some of our artistic creations displayed in the “Swell” exhibition in various galleries throughout New York. We've been getting a lot of really cool reactions and interest. Pretty heavy, ain't it?
Check out a little review that the New York Times recently did about the showing.

The Fletcher’s “Swell” Art Show In New York
Wednesday, July 7th, 2010
Herbie, Dibi and Nathan are presently having their artwork displayed in New York as part of the "Swell" showcase.
Check out the press release for more information:
"Curated by Tim Nye and Jacqueline Miro. This survey of art inspired by surf and beach culture will open to the public on July 1st at the three locations in Chelsea and will include work by most members of the group of Venice Beach artists known as Light and Space and Finish Fetish.
The show historically contextualizes beach culture and its poetic and freeing nature on the Beat Generation, Assemblage, Light and Space, Finish Fetish, and early Pop Art.
One of the main axes of the show is the obvious yet sensual relationship between Shapers and the Finish Fetish movement of the 60's. As the show focuses on two cities, L.A. and New York, it attempts to place the Ocean and its proximity to both cities ...
He’s Baaaaaack

So we just got the report in, and it seems like Herbie's trip to New York was a great success. He met a lot of new people -cool people - hung out, explored SoHo, and even sold an art piece. Seriously, how rad is that?
Despite the frigid temperature, New York and its inhabitants were more than welcoming to Herb and he had a blast. Herbie stayed with artist Julian Schnabel at Julian's place. Julian's son, Vito, who is the curator for the art show that Herbie is featured in (Brucennial 2010: Miseducation), was at opening night wearing a Christian Fletcher t-shirt. So sick.
And as is always the case, Herbie's back here in good ole San Clemente, already back to the grind with other numerous projects in the works. Among them, he's working on restoring all the old Wave Warriors series and Adrenaline Surf Series so all you guys out there ...

It's probably a conservative assumption to say that you probably know a little somethin' somethin' about Herbie Fletcher.
Legendary surfer, superior waterman, raging jet skier, surf traction pad mogul, crafty shaper, Wave Warriors film magnate, husband to the fiercely creative and independent Dibi (Hoffman) Fletcher, father to flying alchemists Christian and Nathan Fletcher. Blah, blah, blah, the list goes on. And on and on. Seriously, if it involves innovation, water, and surf, it probably has Herbie's scent on it. And it would take an extra two days to even slightly dwell on his past involvements with the wakeboarding world, the 1984 U.S. Olympic team, modeling with Versace, and his friendship with Julian Schnabel, Bruce Weber and Ingrid Sischy of Interview ...
